PROUDLY SERVING NORTH ALABAMA
Since 1953
North Alabama’s oldest family owned and operated sign company, J&M Signs, was founded over 70 years ago by Carl McMasters. Carl learned to bend neon on the GI Bill after serving his country in WWII. He later opened his shop on historic Bank Street in Decatur, Alabama with one other employee. It is there that they perfected the craft and became the regions trusted provider of unique, eye-catching, well-built signage for customers for many miles around.

As Decatur grew in the mid 50’s through the early 70’s so did the business.
The early 70’s saw Carl’s son, Carlton Sr., join the business. The 70’s through the 90’s saw many changes at J&M Signs. From the changeover to electric cranes from hand cranked, computerized vinyl cutters, fax machines to a new facility and addition, Carlton Sr. oversaw a period of tremendous growth for the company, building on the foundation his father started.
2002 saw the third generation join the business, Carlton McMasters, Jr. In his 20 years he’s overseen J&M Signs shift technologically. Gone are the days of hand drawn sketches, everything is now computerized. Digital graphics, LED’s and electronic message centers are now the norm. Our history runs deep in this community. Since 1953, we have had the honor of building and maintaining some of North Alabama’s most recognizable signs. Since 1954, we have maintained Decatur’s historic, art deco Princess Theatre. Every generation has supervised a major renovation to the historic marquee. Throughout 70 years and 3 generations, one thing hasn’t changed, the commitment to our clients. We feel that constant communication is key throughout the branding process. From conception to installation, we’re with you every step of the way.
